For generations, public lands have been where road trips turn into stories. And now these lands are at risk.
The U.S. Senate is currently debating a provision that could trigger the largest public land sell-off in American history. It would allow 2–3 million acres of U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management land across 11 Western states to be sold over the next five years.
Rather than exclusively impacting remote lands, this bill could limit access to outdoor locations that are frequented by millions of visitors. Portions of iconic areas like the Teton National Forest, Sawtooth Mountains, Mount Hood, Mount Bachelor and the Wind River Range could all be taken for private use. While national parks, monuments, and designated wilderness areas are excluded, millions of beloved acres outside those protections are not.
