Toyota Sports All-New Tundra

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

For 2007, Toyota’s all-new Tundra pickup will have three body styles (standard cab, double
cab and crew cab), three bed sizes and three engines. The 4.0-liter V-6 and 4.7-liter V-8
are coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission. Tundras will have an optional new
5.7-liter V-8 rated at 381 hp with 401 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm, connected to a new
six-speed automatic. With the optional Tow Package for V-8 models, the Tundra has a maximum
tow rating up to 10,800 pounds. The Tundra’s rear leaf springs are splayed, to better
locate the axle laterally, minimizing side-to-side movement when towing a trailer. For
towing, there’s a seven-pin connector, automatic-transmission temperature gauge,
supplemental transmission cooler, tow/haul mode, and the truck is pre-wired for a trailer
brake controller. The Tow Package upgrades both cooling and electrical systems, resulting
in higher alternator output, a water-to-oil engine oil cooler that quickens engine warm-up,
and an automatic transmission fluid warmer that heats the fluid quickly in cold weather.
Toyota beefed up the frame, the rear axle with a 10.5-inch ring gear, and added four-piston
front brake calipers. There is also optional telescoping towing mirrors available on
5.7-liter V-8 models. Pricing is not yet available.
