New inventions jointly developed by Dana Corp. and Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems will allow large trucks to monitor tire pressures and add anti-lock brakes to trailers for
improved safety.
The companies have combined their technologies into an electronic control module that combines ABS, tire-maintenance tracking and tire monitoring into one trailer-based system.
The combination is Dana’s Spicer Tire Inflation and Monitoring System (TIMS), along with the Bendix TABS-6 antilock braking system. The system displays tire pressures on the dash, and diagnostics can be done with a Bendix Internet-based system. Eventually similar systems may become available for travel trailers.
