What It’s Like to Camp in Red Lodge, Montana

A Beautiful Area Near Yellowstone

Image Caption:

Known as the gateway to Yellowstone National Park, Red Lodge is a city that’s a part of the Billings Metropolitan Statistical Area. It’s a beautiful small mountain town that gives you access to the Beartooth Highway, which will take you Yellowstone and beyond.

In August 2020, Crazy Family Adventure had a chance to stay at one of their favorite campgrounds in Red Lodge. In the video above, you’ll see why camping in this area is a special experience. There are plenty of good campgrounds to choose from that are right near the city of Red Lodge.

There’s the Palisades Campground, Beck’s Alpine Motel Campground, Perry’s RV Park and Campground, and more. All of them will provide you with a unique experience filled with mountain views, and you’ll have a creek running right next to the campground.  If you’re looking for a campground in this area, we suggest checking out Good Sam’s list of campgrounds.

In the video, the family goes to the Glacier Lake Trail Head for a nice four-mile hike. It’s cold when they’re there. While Billings was warm when they were there, this area is at a much higher altitude, which means the temperature is dramatically different. That’s something to keep in mind when you visit this area. It can be near freezing temperatures even in the summer!
