In the high-end diesel market, where coaches are already filled with
creature features and high-tech wonders, Newmar Corporation has upped
the ante with its 2007 Mountain Aire diesel-pusher.
In addition to visually striking redesigned front and rear caps
outside, the coach features such interior refinements as polished
porcelain ceramic flooring, hardwood unitized cabinets with full overlay
doors, and a recessed ceiling with mood lighting, halogen lighting and
hidden vents.
However, perhaps the biggest change is unseen: The coach
features Comfort Drive Steering as standard equipment. Developed by TRW,
the “intelligent” steering system is designed to decrease driver
fatigue by self-compensating for crosswinds and crowns in the road. The
system is said to create a positive on-center feel, which reduces
parking efforts and improves drivability when backing up. Newmar (newmarcorp.com) has a two-year exclusive on the technology with TRW and Spartan Chassis, and will offer it on several models.
