NHTSA Studies Ford Cruise Control

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 6 million additional Ford vehicles could contain the same cruise-control part that led to the investigation of 3.7 million trucks and SUVs.

NHTSA is monitoring for reports of fires in the new group of vehicles, which include older Explorers along with 2001-2002 Ford Escapes. The cruise control switch is being studied for reports of overheating and resulting fires, including the 1995-1999 and 2001-2002 F-150 pickup, and 1997-1999 and 2001-2002 Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator.

No injuries or deaths have been reported. Ford has recalled some vehicles already for problems with the switch, including 750,000 trucks and SUVs from the 2000 model year.
