IKEA and RV Manufacturer ESCAPE Partner to Build Mobile Tiny Homes

Creating a Smaller Yet More Sustainable Way to Live

Image Caption:

Swedish furniture Company IKEA has partnered with Wisconsin-based home and RV Builder ESCAPE and media company Vox Creative to design 187-square-foot “tiny” mobile homes, according to an article from Architectural Digest. The home, referred to as the IKEA Boho XL model, sits on a flatbed trailer, which allows for easy towing to and from destinations.

Because they need less electricity, require fewer materials to construct, and take up less land, tiny homes are far more sustainable than an average house. But, the IKEA Boho XL model builds upon tiny home sustainability by incorporating solar panels, a composting toilet, energy-efficient light bulbs, and water-efficient faucets.

The construction utilizes renewable, reusable, and recycled materials. And, the kitchen surfaces are made from recycled plastic bottles and the wood paneling comes from sustainably grown pine.

The interior also utilizes multifunctional design to make the most of the small space. The couch and queen-sized bed have built-in storage space and the kitchen table collapses into a desk that can also fold down completely for extra space.

Despite an emphasis on sustainability, interior design was still considered with great care. Neutral colors, blonde wood, and minimal accenting create an inviting interior reminiscent of Nordic design.

ESCAPE is currently accepting orders for the IKEA Boho XL model, which starts at $47,500.
