GM Recalls SUVs
GM is recalling 341,000 SUVs for a defect in the seat-belt buckle. Model-year 1997 Chevrolet Blazers, GMC Jimmys and Oldsmobile Bravadas are involved. Approximately 313,000 were sold in the United States, and about 19,000 in Canada. The recall involves an “energy-absorbing loop” that allows the belts to stretch too much in certain crashes and fails to protect the occupants properly. GM will replace the buckles involved free of charge.
