BMW Diesels Coming to U.S.?
BMW has announced that it will add diesel-engine options to some models in its U.S. lineup. Despite tougher diesel-emissions rules taking effect, BMW is planning for a 2007 launch.
GM to Introduce New SUVs Earlier
General Motors plans to move up the introduction of certain new vehicle models, beginning with the next-generation of full-size SUVs. According to a GM spokesperson, they will be in showrooms by January 1. Some crossover models and midsize SUVs, such as Chevrolet’s TrailBlazer, may follow soon thereafter.
GM Recalling Vans
General Motors is recalling 2001 and 2002 Chevrolet Astro and GMC Safari vans to repair a faulty switch that prevents brake and four-way flasher lamps from working. More than 77,000 vehicles in the United States and 13,000 in Canada are affected. Dealers will fix the problem for free.
NHTSA Will Require Tire Monitors in 2008
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that the tire-pressure monitoring systems, which it previously announced, will now be mandatory for the 2008 model year. The new systems will report if a tire is 25 percent low on air pressure. Vehicles weighing less than 10,000 pounds must have the systems by the 2008 model year.
